St Stephen's and Queen Victoria Schools Trust Board establish the Mihingare Scholarships
    4 October 2016

Bernard Te Paa, Chairman of the St Stephen’s and Queen Victoria Schools Trust Board, says they are really pleased to be implementing the new Mihingare (Anglican) scholarships. Mr Te Paa says that the Trust Board deliberately targeted the new scholarships at financial need, because they know that many families struggle to cover the increasing costs of secondary schooling.

“The costs all add up - school fees, uniforms, books, equipment including tablets/laptops, travel costs, extra-curricular activities, and even higher costs for those who are boarding.”

“We as a Trust are wanting to enable Maori to succeed as Maori and access quality educational pathways.” Te Paa adds.

“The Mihingare Scholarships target Maori secondary school students who demonstrate financial need, and given the history and purpose of the Trust, consideration will also be given to applicants who have a connection to the Anglican Church and/or Maori Anglican Special Character Schools. This includes whanau of past students of St Stephen’s and Queen Victoria schools which closed down a few years ago.”

“The St Stephen’s and Queen Victoria Schools Trust Board looks forward to receiving a number of quality applications and to supporting our tamariki and whānau.”

Mr Te Paa asks people to help spread the word about the Mihingare Scholarships and to encourage people to apply.
